The Challenge
Steel coils are among the most demanding loads in heavy cargo transport. Each coil in this project weighed around 29 tonnes, a concentrated, rolling mass that behaves very differently from a static load. Moving 250+ of them as a single project across Saudi Arabia, over 7,000 tonnes of steel from a major Red Sea port to an industrial hub deep inland, meant every single movement had to be engineered for safety.
Unlike lighter freight, a steel coil places enormous weight on a small footprint. Get the securing or the weight distribution wrong, and the load becomes a serious hazard on the highway.
The Solution
Zama approached this the way heavy haul should be approached: with planning before wheels ever turned.
Each coil was carried on specialised trailers designed for concentrated point loads, using coil wells and cradles to keep the mass stable. Load distribution was calculated to stay within axle limits, and every unit was secured to withstand braking, cornering, and the long road inland.
Coordinating a project of this scale, over 7,000 tonnes moving as one operation, ran on exceptional cargo permits coordinated with the Transport General Authority, with route surveys confirming that every bridge, junction, and clearance along the way could safely handle the weight.
The Result
250+ steel coils delivered across the Kingdom in a single project. Every coil arrived intact, on schedule, and without incident.
That record is not luck. It is the outcome of disciplined load engineering, experienced drivers, and route planning that leaves nothing to chance.
Built for Vision 2030
Saudi Arabia’s industrial and infrastructure growth under Vision 2030 depends on moving heavy materials like steel reliably and safely. Every coil delivered is a link in that larger chain of national development.
Zama is proud to keep the Kingdom’s heavy cargo moving.
